James Thomas

James Thomas has been a Marylander his entire life. He grew up in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, and raised his family in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. James’ passion for law started when he was a teenager. He would leave school early, go sit in court, in Leonardtown, Maryland and listen to court cases. He has always wanted to practice in trial court and, over the past three decades continues to perfect his craft. 

James Thomas graduated in 1992 from Salisbury University summa cum laude, and got his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1996. James was law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence R. Daniels and the Honorable John Hanson Briscoe before beginning practicing law. James was admitted to the Maryland Bar in June 1997, and he was admitted to the Washington D.C. Bar in 2007.  He has since represented hundreds of clients throughout the Maryland courts. His work as a trial attorney has prepared him to be ready for a wide variety of cases, from highly contested divorce and custody matters, to adoption and paternity.

James Thomas has spent many years giving back to the community, through religious organizations, volunteer work and pro-bono legal services. He was the 2015 recipient of the pro bono award from Community Legal Services in Prince George’s County, Maryland in recognition of his volunteer efforts for their Self Represented Family Law Clinic in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

After many years of trial work, James decided to open his own practice. He knew that many clients did not receive the specific attention necessary to take their case from start to finish successfully at larger firms. Since he first established his private practice in 2010, James has always prided himself on providing personalized and precise legal advice and counsel to clients of all backgrounds.
